Resume

I have been creating art over 10 years. My work was shown for the first time at West End Gallery in Corning NY in December 2009, in the Sparkle show. In July of 2010 I had a one person show at the Spotlight Gallery of the Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes. I have participated with new work in each of West End Gallery's group artist shows.

Biography

I’ve had a diverse career in small business operation, information systems, design and communications.

As an Army officer I participated in the development of first generation, large-scale troop management information systems.

After leaving the service I went to work for Electronic Data Systems in Dallas, TX, where I led a small team of young professionals installing information systems to credit unions nationwide. To do a stint selling those systems I moved to Phoenix with my new wife Ellen.

From 1980 – 1998 I operated a furniture rental business and a corporate housing business in New York City. During this time I discovered what has been a love affair ever since, the first Apple Mac. At this dawn of personal computing, one of the early uses I made of the Mac was to enter the floor plan of the customer’s apartment. From there I’d select and place furniture onto the floor plan from a pre-entered library. The last piece was the ability to move the furniture objects around the floor plan so the customer could try out alternative layouts. Our Japanese customers loved it. Sounds mundane now, but it was quite cool then.

For most of my life I’ve been involved with some form of art or design, including photography, process and interior design, or building an International Space Station Halloween costume for son Jack (it was so good he refused to wear it.)

I’ve maintained a strong attachment to my extraordinary hometown, Corning, NY. In a major life change I moved to Corning in June where I reside and, for the first time, focus on my art.

I am father to Jack Michael Boland.

For 18 years I’ve participated in activities of the Space Frontier Foundation, a space policy and advocacy group that pursues opening the space frontier to everyone by unleashing the power of free enterprise. We believe that human settlement of space is inevitable and that using the nearly unlimited of resources in space creates a path to a healthier Earth. I’ve held various positions within the Foundation.

My other interests include politics, world affairs and learning about the universe.
